Personal stylist on the ‘key’ methods to dress comfortably chic and look slimmer

Personal stylist Louise Pennington said to Express.co.uk: “I would describe outfits that are simply worn and not styled as looking frumpy.

“Clothes need styling, they need personal style touches like jewellery or an unexpected shoe added to them to make the total look pop.”

There are three “key styling tips” Louise strongly recommends to make sure your outfit looks well put-together.

“Always turn or roll your sleeves up,” Louise advised. “Visually showing a little skin at the wrist slims your entire body and will make you look slimmer.”

Another top tip is to “tuck your clothes in” to help define your waist and make your legs look longer.

And one trend Lousie said to be wary of is the oversize trend. “Sure, it’s nice to try an oversized coat or blazer now and then,” she said.

“But don’t put too many oversized pieces into one look. Stick to one hero piece.”

Wardrobe must-haves

Adding a few well-cut basics into your wardrobe is always a good idea.

Louise is a fan of the French brand Aurélie, which has unique pieces in its collection.

“They combine them with contemporary shapes that can be seamlessly styled with existing items in any wardrobe,” said Louise.

Fashion no-nos

While Louise said there aren’t really any fashion pieces you should stay away from, Louise has one pet peeve.

“Crocs you should definitely stay away from,” said Louise, who said they’re only good for those who have to stand up on their feet all day.

Otherwise, Louise said: “Crocs are a no-go. Unpopular opinion it might be, but it’s definitely a thing.”

Whether you’re a fan of crocs or not, Louise said the most important thing is that you feel comfortable in your own clothes.

“Feeling comfortable in your clothes is our ultimate goal; a comfortable you is a confident you.⁣”

Louise’s styling tips only enhance your own individual look so that you can step out feeling great.
