Princess Beatrice, 34, welcomed her first daughter Sienna Mapelli Mozzi on September 18, 2021. The Princess keeps her daughter strictly private, but there was one occasion when experts noticed a special charm attached to Sienna’s buggy.
Sarah McCann, a trends expert at luxury diamond jewellery company Diamonds Factory, has identified each female member of the Royal Family’s lucky charms and told Express.co.uk their hidden meanings.
What is Princess Beatrice’s lucky charm?
Sarah said: “Princess Beatrice securely hung an ‘Evil Eye’ charm on her daughter’s pram at Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland, 2021.
“This was seen as a symbol of protection against evil,” the expert claimed.
What is an “Evil Eye”?
Sarah explained: “The Evil Eye is a traditional symbol of protection against the envious gaze of others.
“It is also said to bring good luck and fortune to its bearer.
“It’s a custom in some parts of the world to hang an Evil Eye on one’s home, car, or business as protection against evil.”
What is a good luck charm?
Sarah added: “A lucky charm is an item that is either worn, carried, or displayed on someone’s property and is said to protect the person from misfortune or bring them luck and success.
“The lucky horseshoe, clover, and wishbone are a few of the best-known lucky charms.
“However, because good luck charms have been widely used for generations and across countries, many cultures have their own symbols.
“Even in today’s uncertain world, carrying good luck charms can provide a measure of comfort by reassuring the wearer that they will bring prosperity, protection, or good fortune.”
Beatrice is not the only member of the Royal Family who wears a lucky charm.
Her younger sister Princess Eugenie has also followed this tradition in the past.
Sarah added: “Princess Eugenie followed tradition by including a myrtle good luck charm in her bridal bouquet.
“A myrtle is a small evergreen bush or tree with clusters of small yellow flowers that bloom in the late summer and autumn months.
“As a good luck charm, it is believed to bring luck and fidelity in marriage.
“The tradition was started by Queen Victoria with a posy-grown myrtle bush given to her as a gift.
“The custom has since been carried on for 160 years with a sprig of that very same bush.”
