The Countess of Wessex was seen talking to and playing with children at the Forfar Early Learning Centre this morning, November 1. Sophie joined in with the children’s activities as she joined her husband, the Earl of Wessex, on the visit.

Sophie opted for a long, cream-coloured coat with a large, open collar.

The Countess is a fan of cream and beige coats, and has many – but this was a wool version she has been seen in before.

Underneath the coat, Sophie wore a brown velour skirt and a patterned blouse.

These two items of clothing combined gave the outfit a 1970s feel to it.

Sophie accessorised with her Halcyon Days white, beaded bracelet, and a gold pendant.

She also wore her engagement ring on her wedding finger.

Sophie’s engagement ring features a central, two-carat oval diamond, flanked by two smaller heart-shaped diamonds.

Speaking previously to Express.co.uk about the Countess’ engagement ring, Daena Borrowman of jewellerybox said: “Sophie, Countess of Wessex was proposed to with a trilogy diamond ring from the royal jeweller Garrard. The white gold ring features a two-carat central oval diamond flanked by two smaller heart-shaped diamonds.

“It is worth around £105,000. It is very special indeed because it has many special ties to other Royal Family members.

“Firstly, it bears a close similarity to the Queen’s engagement ring and, secondly, its designer Garrard, was also behind the engagement rings of Princess Diana and Sarah, Duchess of York.”

Eddie LeVian, the CEO of LeVian, whose ancestors guarded the royal jewels of Persia, also spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk to explain why Sophie’s ring conveys “enduring love”.

He said: “Sophie Wessex’s engagement ring is a testament to enduring love. The trilogy diamond engagement design which brings together three diamonds has been said to represent the past, the present and the hope for a beautiful future of a couple’s unique loving relationship.

“In addition, platinum is the most secure precious metal for holding precious gemstones and is associated with resilience and longevity. With this royal engagement ring, Prince Edward marked his private wedding proposal with a very meaningful token of romance.”

Today, Sophie had styled her blonde locks in loose curls and wore minimal make-up.

She completed her look with a pair of small, gold hoop earrings.

Sophie and Edward’s visit to Forfar comes three years after he was created Earl of Forfar by the late Queen to mark his 55th birthday.

This was added to the two titles Edward has been holding since his nuptials with Sophie – Earl of Wessex and Viscount Severn.

The county of Forfar seemed to be very close to Queen Elizabeth II’s heart as it includes Glamis Castle, the ancestral seat of the Earls of Strathmore and Kinghorne, from whom Prince Edward’s grandmother Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother was descended.

The Wessexes’ first official visit to Forfar was paid in July 2019, four months after he received the title. Sophie and Edward’s latest trip to Forfar comes one day after it was announced the Earl was adding another patronage to his already extensive portfolio.

The Earl, who worked in theatre and television productions between the 1980s and 2002, has now tied links with Reading Rep Theatre, a theatre and cultural hub in Berkshire.
