Stylist’s tip for women over 50 ‘makes a huge difference’

Mature women have many options when it comes to looking younger. From haircare to skincare, makeup to cosmetic treatments, anti-ageing is totally accessible.

Some experts believe that a simple wardrobe revamp can also reverse the clock.

Deirdre, founder of 50 & Fabulous with My Friend Deirdre, spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk about the two accessories that can transform a bad outfit.

The YouTube creator claimed that a simple accessory can make the difference between a aging, frump outfit and a youthful, flattering one.

She told Express.co.uk: “A really easy way to make sure you’re not on the road to Frumpsville is to belt your outfit.

“It really makes a huge difference to your outfit by giving waist definition, which is youthful.”

Deirdre continued: “One key mistake that we can make and which is a serious frump factor is to wear our clothes too baggy and when we wear shapeless pieces.”

But this doesn’t mean women over 50 need to ditch their baggy clothes for good – rather, they must learn to accessorise them cleverly.

Deirdre suggested that a loose-fitting piece can be “instantly uplifted to take away the frump factor” with a simple addition of a belt.

She asserted: “Belts can transform a shift dress, a tunic and particularly a shirt dress.”

The expert’s next tip was to invest in some stylish headwear – but it’s important you know what works.

She said: “Hats are wonderfully glamorous but also a minefield when it comes to knowing which shape to wear.

“For more formal events, asymmetrical shapes are uber-flattering, but avoid looking too ‘matchy-matchy’ with a matching hat, bag and shoes.

“For more everyday looks, my style tip would be to get inspiration from menswear, like a fedora hat, which is endlessly flattering on a woman. You just can’t go wrong with a stylish fedora.

“They frame your face but don’t overwhelm your features. Choose a colour which suits your skin tone and complements your outfit.”
