We live in an old caravan in a field – it’s saved us £10k and we only pay a few hundred quid for bills | The Sun

A COUPLE have revealed that they live in a caravan in a field and have managed to save a staggering £10,000 in the process.

Not only this, but the pair have also reduced their bills by an eye-watering 80 per cent as a result of their cheap way of living.

The couple took to social media to show an insight into their frugal life, as they explained that they spent £5,500 on the caravan and were lucky enough to have family land to put it on.

In one clip, the couple revealed: “How we managed to reduce our bills by 80% and save over £10,000 in under 12 months, which allowed us to buy our bus!”

The man gave his followers a close-up look inside his tiny home, as he said: “This is how we saved £10,000 in under 12 months and reduced our bills by up to 80%.

“So for all of our hot water and our cooking, this thing [gas canister] only cost us £96, and it lasts four to six months.

SPELLBINDING

I bought a 1980s caravan & transformed it into a beautiful tranquil space

“As for heat in the caravan, we have to stock wood and rely on that to keep us warm through the winter.

“It's a bit of graft, but it's so nice having a fire.

“As for the kitchen, it's not really much different to any other kitchen.

“It's just slightly smaller and it's something you get used to.

Mum reveals regrets at having twins and says they’re needy & clingy

“Inside the space, we managed to cram in a podcast studio where we do all our work from.

“And the living room is 12 feet by 12 feet, so it's still quite a cosy space and very much livable.

“We live with a big 25 kilo Staffordshire, so he loves the space."

The man then showed off his bedroom and bathroom, as he shared: "Then we've got our cosy little bedroom, which is quite small, but again, it just creates this cosy vibe and especially at night when we've got all the little lights on.

“The bathroom, as you'd expect, not massive, but again, nice, clean and easy. Very easy to clean.

“All fiberglass. Really high water pressure, surprisingly, much higher than I had in my last house, so that was always a bonus.

“I understand everybody can't do this and you need a space to put it in, but if you can do it, then I definitely would.”

However, in another clip, the man revealed the downsides about living in a caravan, as he claimed: “Some of the worst things about living in a caravan, brutally honest edition!”

He explained: “Here are some of the worst things about living in a caravan.

“So the gas is great when it's running, but when it does run out, it tends to run out when you're halfway through a shower or you're just about to go out.

“When your pipes get clogged, you have to be the one to unclog them. That means sifting through and mixing round loads of your own dirty s**t water.

“Living on a patch of land, there is no path to the caravan, which means you trailing in mud a lot of the time, especially during winter and the wetter months.

“This can get annoying, but usually we just wait for it to dry and sweep it back out or replace the carpet.

“Often in the winter when we don't have enough wood, we have to use various items to keep ourselves warm, all which are very expensive to run.”

Not only this, but he revealed that pipes can free and their clothes get mouldy in winter months, as he continued: “During the winter when it's frosty outside, our pipes can freeze and that's our water inlet and our water outlet, which means when you go to turn the tap on in the morning, we get no water.

“Also during the winter months we find it really hard to keep these cupboards moisture free.

“Even with dehumidifiers, we’ve found mould on our clothes.

“This video is just focused on the negative sides of living in a caravan and there are trade offs for everything.

“But the upsides for us make it worthwhile and is a stepping stone for our future.”

The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @effingoff, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly amassed 600,600 views.

One person said: “I like your honesty but I am sure the good bits outshine the worst!”

In response, the social media user replied: “Yeah 100%, for us the trade offs are completely worth it, we just wanted to shine some light on the less pretty aspects of this lifestyle.”

Another added: “I live in a caravan and wouldn't change it for the world!!”

The savvy man then responded: “It’s really not bad at all is it, some people think it’s hell but once you get used to it it’s not much different and A LOT cheaper!”

A third commented: “Looks and sounds lovely.”

Meanwhile, many social media users took to the comments to share their recommendations for keeping the caravan warm.

One user advised: “Buy a bigger stone slab. And get a bigger log burner. A proper size burner will heat that place easy.”

A second chimed in: “Get a cheap diesel heater.”

Whilst someone else suggested: “Terracotta heater with just tea lights actually holds some decent heat.”
