A WOMAN has left people desperate to try out her £1 hack after admitting it gave her paint a "perfect finish".
Ashley wanted to paint her staircase black, but was worried about the brush marks a paintbrush would undoubtedly leave.
So she came up with a "genius idea" to help.
She explained in a video on her Instagram page, as she wrote: "I felt so proud of myself with this lightbulb moment and genius idea that I nearly knocked the paint over the stairs as I ran to text Iain and tell him.
"I used a fake tan mitt to give the perfect finish to the staircase… painting black is always tricky with brush marks but the mitt gave such a smooth finish!"
After using the tan mitt on the staircase, she also used it for the spindles, revealing it took "quarter of the time"to do so.

"It's a total game changer!" she said.
"Could you imagine how quickly this would paint doors?"
"So pleased with how the black looks and can’t wait to share the rest of the hall makeover."
And given that you can get a tanning mitt for just £1 in many shops, the hack won't break the bank either.

After Ashley shared the post, her comments section was filled with people either loving or hating her idea.
"Omg I need to try this I'm painting my stairs ans it's taking soooo long!" one wrote.
As another added: "That's genius!"
"Oh this is just amazing! What a fab hack," a third commented.
While someone else wrote: "Omg this is totally brilliant will do this for ever more!!!"
But those who disapproved of Ashley's hack seemed to largely be tradespeople themselves.
"As a painter of 22 years, I can confidently tell you that this is the last way you would ever want to paint your handrails," one wrote.
"I’m a professional painter & decorator. Don’t use this rubbish. Use a good quality brush," another added.
As a third raged: "The only good thing about teaching people to do this garbage is that inevitably a professional decorator will have to be paid to come and rectify it at some point.
"At least you’re doing your bit for the professional tradespeople."
