The 1 Thing You Probably Didn’t Notice About Kate Middleton’s Royal Wedding Outfit

Aside from Meghan Markle, Kate Middleton had one of the most anticipated looks of the royal wedding, especially since it was her first appearance after giving birth to Prince Louis in April 2018. That said, many were disappointed in her royal wedding outfit.

We share the one thing you probably didn’t notice about Kate’s royal wedding look (page 5), plus other surprising details from the ensemble, ahead.

1. Alexander McQueen dress

  • Kate wore a dress by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, the same designer as her royal wedding gown.

Kate wore a coat-like Alexander McQueen dress to Harry and Meghan’s royal wedding. One significant detail about the dress? The British fashion house’s creative director, Sarah Burton also designed Kate’s royal wedding gown, as well as the second wedding dress she wore to her reception at Buckingham Palace.

Many speculated Burton would be a front-runner for Meghan’s wedding dress, but the duchess went with Clare Waight Keller of Givenchy.

2. Jimmy Choo shoes

  • She accessorized her look with a pair of Jimmy Choo pumps, yellow quartz earrings, and a large citrine ring.

It’s no secret that Kate loves her Jimmy Choo pumps. The Duchess of Cambridge wore a pair of nude patent leather pumps by her favorite shoe designer.

In addition to her shoes, she accessorized the look with a pair of yellow quartz earrings and a large citrine ring that many believe was given to her by William after the birth of their son, Prince Louis.

3. She wore white

  • Kate’s royal wedding dress photographed white.

While the palace described her dress as “primrose yellow,” it did not photograph that way. In fact, it was much closer to an off-white than a primrose yellow, if you ask us. Despite the mishap, it wasn’t nearly as disastrous as you’d think — and the distinct yellow in her hat and yellow quartz earrings made up for it.

4. It flattered her post-baby body

  • Kate gave birth to Prince Louis less than one month before the royal wedding.

One of the most surprising things about Kate’s royal wedding look? At the time, she was less than one month postpartum. The duchess gave birth to her third child, Prince Louis on April 23, 2018 — just 26 days before Harry and Meghan’s big day. Kate most-likely chose the Alexander McQueen number for its flattering style, but some speculate a deeper message.

Kate knew that all eyes would be on her post-baby body, so she did what any good sister would do and tried to draw as much attention onto the bride as possible. Not only did she wear a widely photographed dress, she kept her head down as much as possible and tried to go as unnoticed as possible.

5. It was her fourth time wearing it

  • It was Kate’s fourth time wearing the Alexander McQueen dress.

The one thing you probably didn’t notice? It was Kate’s fourth time wearing the Alexander McQueen dress. Prior to Harry and Meghan’s royal wedding, Kate wore the coat dress to Princess Charlotte’s christening, a birthday celebration for the queen, and on a trip to Belgium. That said, she did switch it up for the royal wedding.

6. Her hat

  • Kate changed up her recycled look with a different hat for the royal wedding.

Despite wearing the same outfit four times, Kate managed to switch things up with a different hat. For the royal wedding, the duchess went with a gorgeous Philip Treacy hat that was tilted towards the right side of her head and featured a small floral arrangement under the left side. The hat was very on-theme with Meghan’s spring wedding and matched her recycled dress perfectly.

  • Kate has recycled looks on a number of different occasions.

The royal wedding isn’t the only time Kate has repeated an outfit. In fact, recycled looks are kind of her thing. In the past, the Duchess of Cambridge has been photographed in the same coats, dresses, shoes, and skirt suits.

Kate’s recycled royal looks are not only refreshing, they’re relatable. She might have all the designer looks at her fingertips, but re-wearing some of her favorites proves she’s — in a way — just like us.
