Ageless style: Sequins
Wardrobe staples for everyone by fashion stylist Arabella Greenhill
We love a sequin at YOU but we’re increasingly aware of how problematic they can be. Not only are the tiny circles of plastic terrible for the environment, but it’s hard to find a sequined outfit that will last year after year – most don’t survive a night on the dancefloor without turning into confetti. Which is why we’re obsessed with this Monsoon dress. Part of a very small run, available in only two colours to avoid overproduction waste and made of 70 per cent recycled materials, it proves we can wear sequins responsibly – and look good doing it.
Dress, £350, monsoon.co.uk. Ring, £27.99, pilgrim.net. Sandals, £169, hobbs.com
Sustainable sequins
- To prolong the life of sequined pieces, store in a garment bag to protect them from catching on anything in your wardrobe.
- Wash in a fine mesh bag to prevent loose sequins going down the drain and ending up in the ocean.
- Don’t go for a mismatched coat; stick to something black and simple and keep accessories metallic and minimal
