From baby braids to butterfly clips, throwback beauty trends are having a moment right now, but one look we could never predict the return of is pigtails. That’s right, the classic school hairstyle is no longer reserved for kids and these days, it’s looking anything but childish.
Take it from TOWIE star Amy Childs. In her latest Instagram post, the 32 year old gives the hairstyle an adult upgrade, with her trademark tresses tied up in two high pigtails, along with two pieces of hair left out at the front. The look is very Baby Spice-esque, as Amy admits.
“Baby spice meets Essex,” she writes in the caption.
It’s a whole new hairstyle for the reality star, who doesn’t often stray from her usual bouncy blow-dry, but we’re loving her look – and so are her fans. In the comment section of her post, friends and followers have showered her with compliments like “gorgeous” and “stunning”.
In a close-up video shared to her Instagram Stories, we can also see that the star has two pink bows attached to her pigtails, which she teams with a bronze smokey eye and nude lip.
“Living my best life,” she writes on the post, “deffo got the memo today @towie”.
We’re not sure if the reality show was doing a Spice Girls special, but Amy’s hairstyle is reminiscent of a look worn by the band’s very own Emma Bunton – only, instead of two tiny strands of falling onto her face, Baby Spice was famed for her wispy full fringe plus super-long pigtails.
As Amy’s natural hair is much shorter, we’d assume that she used extensions to achieve the look – which would explain why in a clip shared to her Instagram Stories later on, the star’s four-year-old daughter can be seen running around with a red hair piece on her head.
Although instantly recognisable for her vivid red locks, Amy isn’t afraid to experiment with her look. Over the years, she’s ditched her signature hair colour for a caramel balayage, as well as a beachy blonde hue. For us though, it’s the red shade we’ll always know her for.
After going for the chop last month, the TOWIE star is now rocking a chic, short bob, telling fans in a clip shared to her Stories that she’s “staying short”.
“@joel_maghair21 wanting me to go longer today… na hun I’m staying short,” Amy wrote on the post, as her hair stylist cut down her extensions into a bob that grazes her shoulders.
We wonder what 90s hairstyle Amy will bring back next?
