Piers Morgan tells ‘over-emotional women’ to ‘calm down’ during World Cup final

Piers Morgan cheekily told female fans to "calm down" as they were becoming "over-emotional" during the Women's World Cup final.

England vs Spain kicked off on Sunday (August) but the Lionesses were unable to secure a victory after a devastating 1-0 loss.

During the game, the former Good Morning Britain presenter was vocal on social media and felt brave enough to address the women on his timeline.

He wrote: "Seem to be a lot of very over-emotional women on here right now. Calm down, it’s only a game of football…" followed by a laughing emoji.

While it appeared the TalkTV star was being sarcastic, others didn't take the comments lightly and headed straight to their keyboards to hit back.

One fan fumed: "Excuse me/us? Telling us to calm down? How rude of you. Men are emotional about football, and not told to calm down. You do not own our emotions!"

"Oh come on Piers you get emotional when Arsenal lose," added a second.

Another person replied: "We could say the same about you and cricket (which you were still going on about this week)".

A fourth agreed: "It’s a World Cup final and they want to win. Of course they’re emotional".

After the final whistle went, Piers headed to the platform once again to share another message, but this time to the players.

The former BGT judge penned: "BREAKING: Our women can’t bring it home either. Good effort @Lionesses but the better team won. Congrats to Spain".

Sharing his condolences for the Women's team was former professional footballer Gary Lineker who also congratulated Spain on their "deserved" victory.

Gutted for the @lionesses who gave their all, but congratulations to Spain on winning the World Cup. They were the better team and thoroughly deserved their victory.
