Autumn blonde colour trends to transform your look – from moody money-pieces to marmalades

Are you in the mood to try something new with your hair? Autumn prompts many of us to book in for a hair salon visit to go darker or warmer for the cosy season. If you’re a blonde then you’ll be delighted to know that AW22 is bringing you loads of inspiration in the form of autumnal blonde trends.

Even better, many of these shades require minimal commitment, making them perfect for quickly giving your existing colour a little boost. So, from adding a wash of marmalade to your blonde base to being inspired by a seasonal drink for a spiced bronde hue, here are the top colour trends to try this month…

Marmalade blonde

If you’re a beauty fan on TikTok or Instagram then you probably already know that copper is the “it” colour of the season. Celebs like Gigi Hadid and Sydney Sweeney have prompted huge surges in searches for copper-tinged toners – and we can see why. The warm, rusty shade looks amazing on a broad spectrum of skin tones – and blondes can easily get involved with minimum commitment.

“Marmalade is a lighter version of the copper; slightly weaker in tone and with more of the blonde base poking through. You get the shade applied as a nice glaze over an existing summer blonde – a red hue and a gloss. The result should be shiny, healthy hair with a natural-looking copper tinge,” says Emma Vickery,Percy & Reed salonart director.

Moody money-piece accents

If you haven’t heard of the original money-piece trend, “the look involves making the bulk of hair darker, while keeping contrasting light sections of hair at the front,” explainsJosh Wood, celebrity hairstylist.

The nineties-inspired style, which made its comeback during the first lockdown, is a favourite amongst celebrities likeBeyoncé andKylie Jenner. Now the look has had an upgrade for AW22.

“By sticking closer to your natural colour for a moody money piece, we can blend colour gently, which feels more natural than the thick, white stripes we've seen previously on the likes of Dua Lipa,” explains Lucy Robertson, brand ambassador for Bblonde.

In summary, don’t go for such a harsh colour difference between your base tone and your face-framing highlights. Think moody.

Spiced bronde

We’re all drinking spiced lattes, so why not get a warm and spicy hair colour to match our favourite drink?

“We use toner shades of apricot, strawberry or chilli to add depth and warmth to your post-summer highlights,” says Emma. Since this can be done over the basin, you won’t need any colour work done – unless you want to extend your highlights back up to your root before you tone them.

Expensive blonde

This trend kicked off in summer and it’s staying through to winter, experts predict. While the summer saw a lot of clean platinum hues (thank you, Kim Kardashian), “expensive” tones featuring more creamy base notes will replace them.

“Platinum is still here but it’s all to do with the tone. ‘Expensive blonde’ or ‘Scandi blonde’ shades featuring creamy or honey accents are more wearable and are slightly more natural looking for autumn,” says Emma.

Need a little recap on what “expensive blonde” is? “It can be described as a warm shade of blonde that features fewer shadows and a soft contrast between shades,” explains Sofia Younsi, designer colourist atLive Truesalon. “It can look a little like a balayage with darker roots and lighter ends, but there is more of a softness and creaminess to it.”
