Bargain supermarket with 950 branches to shut shop for good – but all is not lost for shoppers | The Sun

A BARGAIN supermarket with 950 branches is closing yet another store for good.

Lidl has confirmed it will be closing its shop on Kelburn Street in Barrhead, Glasgow.

The retailer will pull down the shutters on the branch in six days' time on September 28.

The closure of the current store will create a "seamless" transition for customers while it will keep all current staff members.

However, all is not lost as Lidl has plans to open another store nearby on the same day (September 28) as the one above closes.

The latest branch will be open from 8am until 10pm from Monday to Saturday and 8am to 9pm on Sundays.

The Scottish Sun also reported that a number of other big brands have secured units at the new retail park.

Baynes, B&M, Burger King, Card Factory, Indigo Sun, Osprey Charging Network, Starbucks and The Salvation Army have confirmed that they will be opening.

Lidl, which has 950 sites, closed and relocated a few shops earlier this spring.

Its store on Drayton Road, Mile Cross, shut on April 30, and its shop on Sturry Road, Canterbury, closed on May 28.

Lidl brought down the shutters due to the poor condition of the buildings and bosses deeming them unfit for purpose.

Lidl isn't the only store pulling the plug on some of its branches across the UK.

On Thursday (September 21), Next revealed it would be closing 11 of its stores.

The high street chain said six of the closures are taking place because it expects the stores won't reach their target margins.

Two of the closures are due to site redevelopments, while the remaining three are taking place because an agreement couldn't be reached with the site's landlord.

It comes after Next closed its store Westfield Stratford City earlier this year.

But like Lidl, it's not all bad news, as Next also announced that it has opened five new Clearance stores in the last six months.

Meanwhile Shoezone is closing its branch in Westgate Street, Ipswich, and it has launched a huge closing down sale.

The store is set to relocate to a new site in Tavern Street.
