DEAR DEIDRE: SINCE I came out as transgender to my best mate, she hasn’t stopped addressing me by my old, female name.

Telling her took a lot of courage and I thought she’d accept my identity, instead she jokes about it and acts like it’s just a phase.

We’re both 21 and met at school.

As I identify as a boy now, I find it really offensive to be constantly deadnamed and misgendered by her.

I keep telling her to stop, but she says she can’t as she knows the real me.

If even my best mate won’t accept me for who I am, how will anyone else?

Talk to your friend again and explain you’d really appreciate it if she can make more effort to get your name and gender right.
