Can you solve this trivia riddle? Pub puzzle depicting a ‘common phrase’ stumps thousands – before the answer is finally revealed hours later

  • Thousands are upset over ‘ridiculous’ pub trivia riddle that ‘doesn’t make sense’
  • The puzzle is two women with ticks above them next to three symbols for men

Thousands were left scratching their heads after a man shared a snap of a perplexing puzzle he encountered at pub trivia.

A Sydney man posted a photo of the riddle – which consisted of silhouettes of two women’s faces with ticks above their heads next to three symbols usually seen on the door of men’s restrooms.

The puzzle was accompanied by the simple instruction of it being a ‘common phrase’ most would be familiar with.

The man begged strangers on r/Australia to help him come up with a solution to the evasive problem.

He eventually cracked and called the pub – Penrith Gaels in Western Sydney – in the early hours of the next morning – only for them to reveal that the answer is ‘Ladies first.’

The man revealed that no one at the event was able to correctly guess the answer – so the Trivia Master accepted all entries.

‘I called the pub and the bloke that did the Trivia will only be in later today … so I’ve left my name and number for him to call back.’

He later wrote, ‘The Trivia Master was looking for the answer “Ladies First” – it’s a bit anti-climactic but at least we know the truth now.’

More than 2,600 people were displeased by the ‘lame’ answer and ‘unnecessarily convoluted’ puzzle, so they offered up their own spins:

‘Chequered history?’ one woman proposed. ‘Check-her his-three.’

‘Two is company, three’s a crowd.’

‘So they say – two heads are better than three men. Think twice before putting effort in!’

Another ventured: ‘Ladies first? Looking for Mr Right? Sees right through them? Looking right at them?’

‘Behind all great men is a ticked off woman?’

‘Three out of five letters in “woman” is “man”?’

‘Two birds in the hand are better than three in a bush.’

One even asked if the puzzle was meant to be a microphone test:

‘Check, check. 1, 2. 1, 2, 3.’

‘I’ve been thinking about this all night,’ one man wrote hours before the answer was revealed. ‘I cannot sleep.’

‘F**k this puzzle, I’m actually so upset. Why do I go on social media before bed?’

‘This is driving me crazy, I have no idea what it could mean.’
