A charming thatched cottage that actually appeared on Cadbury’s chocolate boxes more than 130 years ago is up for sale for £700,950.

Weavers is a 16th century, Grade II, timber-framed home in the Suffolk village of Stradishall, filled with exposed wooden beams, original fireplaces and solid oak flooring.

The historical cottage fits perfectly with the term ‘chocolate box cottage’, which is used to refer to pretty country, and so its not surprise it was one of 12 chosen to be pictured the British chocolate giant.

The current owner bought the property 20 years ago and more recently rented it out through an AirBnb but now the four-bedroom home is being sold with Jackson-Stops.

Founder of Cadbury’s cocoa and chocolate company, Richard Cadbury first came up with the idea of putting pictures on the front of chocolate boxes in 1868 to make them more visually appearing.

A real-life chocolate box cottage, used for some of the original Cadbury’s chocolate boxes, has gone on the market for £799,950

‘The Cadbury connection, with it appearing on the chocolate box, certainly adds a romantic element to the property, as well as the fact it was one of the Lilliput Lane cottages.

‘But this would not just be a romantic buy, as it has been designed and renovated in a way which makes it a practical family home, something which is not always the case with thatched cottages.

‘It really is a special home and I know the owners have loved their time here.’

The cottage is also believed to be the inspiration for the Strawberry Fields model maker Lilliput Lane.

The company, founded by the late David Tate, made a range of miniature handmade models of real English and Welsh cottages.
