Coronation Streets Ashley Peacock star Steven Arnolds life off screen 13 years after soap exit

Ashley Peacock was once a staple of Coronation Street, as the character was a regular on the cobbles for some 15 years between 1995 and 2010.

Ashley, who was played by Corrie legend Steven Arnold, was one of the victims of the tragic 8 December 2010 tram crash.

He was killed off as a part of a series of episodes to celebrate the show’s 50th anniversary and included a special live episode on 9 December, which Steven appeared in as an off-screen voice actor.

His character wasn’t the only victim of the unfortunate accident, as Molly Dobbs, an unnamed cabbie and Charlotte Hoyle were also caught up in the incident.

Fans were devastated by Ashley’s death, especially as the Peacock family had just decided to start afresh in France after some financial troubles.

It was the last time Coronation Street fans saw Steven Arnold on-screen – and it’s left them wondering what the star has been up to since his time on the soap came to an end.

Steven is still a working actor, and has appeared in a myriad of short films and has had bit parts in other series, including Casualty.

He’s also dipped his toes into working behind the camera, and now has a number of Producer credits to his name.

However, Steven says that plenty of fans still only recognise him as Ashley Peacock.

“It’s amazing, I find myself forgetting I was ever in Coronation Street, but then someone shouts over and I think, oh yeah, bloody hell,” he told The Guide Liverpool, and added that he was a “fantastic character” who he “loved playing so much.”

He also said that he thinks his character’s departure was “fantastic” and that he “couldn’t have asked for a better exit.”

Steven is fiercely private about his personal life, and it’s not known if he’s married or if he has kids.

In 1997, it was reported that he was briefly engaged to a woman named Gemma McSorely, but that the pair broke it off just before Christmas.

Since then, he hasn’t been publicly linked to anyone else.

He is still good friends with his on-screen wife, Julia Haworth, who played Claire Peacock for seven years between 2003 and 2010.

The pair reunited for Loose Women, which recently saw a star walk off set after an awkward comment, in 2021, when Steven got nostalgic and joked that it was like she had “never been away” and revealed that they had actually worked together for a short film, Once A Year On Blackpool Sands, in 2019.
