Costa Coffee axes UK cafes in widespread high street closures

Several British retailers have axed high street premises this month as part of planned closures.

Supermarkets including Iceland and Marks and Spencer joined Boots, Next and New Look in shutting down stores, with Costa Coffee now also on the list.

The popular chain has already lost a handful of cafes in recent weeks, and it’s not the end of the closures.

More branches will disappear from British high streets, as confirmed by the business.

It follows months of widespread action across the UK by various retailers, many of which will continue to reduce their store portfolios in the lead-up to Christmas.

Costa to lose nine cafes by next month

Costa Coffee has already shut eight sites in recent weeks and with one more expected to go, the company will have lost nine cafes this year in total.

Regulars at the Church Street, Malvern branch will have to go elsewhere from November 17, when the site will lock its doors for good.

It comes after widespread closures across England throughout the summer saw sites in Cheshire, Oakham and Nottingham close.
