‘Cruel bullies called me vampire at school – they’d be kicking themselves now’

A woman teased in school for looking like a 'vampire' revealed she's become a sexy bloodsucker.

Melly Myers, 30, from London, has always wanted to entertain audiences through screens since she was a young child. At the age of just 10, the dark-haired beauty was signed to a performing agency where she thrived doing acting and ballet.

But while the then-theatre kid blossomed creatively, she didn't have the easiest time at school due to her 'gothic' appearance. Melly was the target of bullies who reeled off cruel remarks about her similarities to a 'vampire'.

But instead of dying her black hair and lathering on the fake tan to hide her 'bloodsucking' resemblance, she learned to embrace her natural self. Although the cruel taunts used to bother her, Melly – who is an up and coming actress – has used her features to her 'advantage' to secure a part in a film… as a vampire.

Speaking to Daily Star, Melly shared how she 'manifested' the role and explained how she's able to get in the headspace of the horror-fuelled character.

"I’ve always been very pale and my natural hair colour is black, and so I’ve always looked quite gothic," Melly exclusively explained.

"And when I was at school people used to say I look like a vampire. There were loads of pale kids at school but I just got it from people.

"It was always boys though, boys would always say it be horrible so they would say ‘ergh you look like a vampire because you’re pale and have black hair’ because I’ve always been so pale.

"It used to bother me when I was younger, but as I grew up I was like ‘I want to use this to my advantage’, I could play a really good vampire because I have the dark features and I have the eyes."

After being trolled as a child for her vampy looks, Melly felt that the role has been inside her all of this time.

"Although embodying a blood crazed monster is nightmare fuel for many, the actress admitted that she doesn't find the vampire character in Bogieville hard to play.

Not just because of already 'gothic' appearance, but that she finds fantasy horror characters 'funny' to become. The actress and influencer noted that having to act as a murderous mythical character doesn't involve much preparation for her – apart from the long hours in the makeup chair.

"I’ve always been put up for these sort of castings and I’ve manifested it twice – so I feel like it’s always been in me," Melly candidly shared. "It’s been waiting to come out.

"To be honest, for me, because it’s very much of a fantasy lead kind of thing I find that psychological stuff freaks me out more. Fantasy lead things like the bogeyman and vampires and dragons and all that sort of stuff, to me it kind of falls into a world that doesn’t really exist.

"So, if it was more psychologically deeper then it takes more prep to keep you grounded whereas ghosts and ghouls and the way that things are portrayed in this sort of film, in my mind, it’s not real. Vampires, in my mind are not real so it doesn’t really affect me.

"But the thing is though, it’s not like I had to play a vampire throughout the whole thing. I do kind of find it a bit comedic. When you watch things like zombie films and vampires, I find that stuff funny so it’s not something I would have had to prepare for because I just find it as one big game to be honest."

But when she's not covered in fake blood and hunting down prey in horror films, the actress hopes she can hang up her fangs and pursue films in the action genre. Melly has now featured in a number of films – including as another vampire – and will be in a Top Boy-type TV series that she hopes will 'blow up'.

Having recently featured in action film 'Rise of the Footsoldier: Vengeance', Melly has her sights on Hollywood and something a little more close to home, a TV soap. She admitted that she would love to be in a Fast and Furious film, and even make it bigtime by starring in a Marvel superhero film.

However, TV drama is where her heart is. Either way, she's certainly got the last laugh.

"For me, I’d ideally like to see myself doing more action kind of stuff and I would love to be in a Fast and Furious type film or a Kill Bill – something that has got action to it," she expressed.

"Or even Marvel, I would love to do a Marvel film where I’m some sort of superhero. I wouldn’t want to be Wonder Woman, I want to be a character that’s not been created so I’d want to be a new Marvel character.

"So even though I’ve done all of this fantasy stuff and I’ve done the horrors, I’ve done the thrillers – I do definitely want to do more action stuff.

"Ultimately for me I would love to do either a Marvel action but most ultimately, I would love to do a series soap. I think because there's so much drama in soap."
