Ducky day care! Golden Labrador Fred adopts 15 orphaned ducklings after previously taking another brood under his paw

• The dog adopted nine orphaned ducklings before when we was 10, in 2018
• His owner Jeremy Goldsmith says he’s not surprised Fred found a new family 

A group of 15 orphaned ducklings have an unlikely new foster dad – in a golden Labrador called Fred. 

Remarkably this is the second time Fred has made headlines after adopting nine orphaned ducklings at Mountfitchet Castle, Essex, when he was ten years old in 2018.

Now years later the old dog has become the proud father to a new brood.

Fred is looking after his new similarly coloured foster children and is even carrying them around on his back

Pictures and video show the ducklings adorably huddling between his front legs and even on top of him as they lay together in the sun.

The ducklings were orphaned after their mother mysteriously disappeared overnight at the Castle in Stansted.

Ever since Fred has made sure to look after his new similarly coloured foster children, even carrying them around on his back.

Fred’s owner Jeremy Goldsmith says he’s not surprised that Fred found a new family.

This is not the first time the old dog has adopted ducklings. Back in 2018 when he was 10 he adopted nine ducklings

The ducklings are expected to remain with Fred at Mountfitchet Castle, Essex, until they are old enough to survive on their own

He explained: ‘Over the 15 years of owning him Fred has spent a lot of time at the Castle with the animals and it has become second nature to him being amongst the various rescued animals.’

The ducklings are expected to remain with Fred at the castle until they’re old enough to survive on their own.

Mountfitchet Castle is a Norman Motte and Bailey castle, built of wood.

Formerly an Iron Age hill fort, the historic site was also a Roman signals fort and later a Saxon and Viking settlement before being attacked in 1066 by William the Conqueror.
