Winterwatch fans in giggles after Iolo Williams mesmerised by beaver comment

Winterwatch viewers were in hysterics when host Iolo Williams declared: “I’ve been mesmerised by your beaver.”

Fans of the BBC Two nature show have got so used to double entendres they hold competitions during episodes guessing how many they can spot.

For years they have been tittering over words like “snatch”, “spunky”, and “black cock" spouted by the presenters.

But Welsh bird expert Iolo, 60, stole the show this week when he could not resist a saucy sign-off as he told how engrossed he had been over film footage of a beaver.

Giggling viewers took to Twitter to hail their new innuendo champion.

Even the official account of the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust paid homage, posting: “‘I’ve been mesmerised by your beaver’. Where’s @NoContxtWatches when you need them? #Winterwatch.”

One viewer wrote: “Winterwatch innuendo bingo this evening. @YoloBirder wins with mesmerised by your beaver’.”

A second said: “Just fell off the sofa after hearing Iolo Williams on #Winterwatch state he was `Mesmerised by your Beaver’.”

Referring to the Beeb broadcasting a prankster’s sex moans during live FA Cup coverage earlier this week, another viewer tweeted: “Porn noises on MOTD last night and BBC2 openly showing beaver tonight #Winterwatch.”

It is not the first time the Winterwatch team has sent viewers into hysterics with their cheeky commentary.

In 2016 host Chris Packham, 61, got saucy as he spoke about a particular type of bird he planned to show co-presenter Michaela Strachan, 56.

“I’ll get Michaela out of bed to show her black cock in the flesh,” he said.

While last year, the pair got carried away over a clip of a tawny owl trying to grab a brown rat from a riverbank.

Chris said: “The tawny owl thought about having a snatch at the rat but then decided not to.”

Michaela replied: “I think he’s a spunky little fellow, that rat… he’s going to avoid predation.”

She went on to say how they had struggled to get any film footage of beavers.

She said: “We are sticking with it and hoping to get more of our beavers during Winterwatch. There’s never a beaver around when you want one, is there?”

The Daily Star has approached the BBC for comment.
