June Brown was on our TV screens for the best part of 20 years playing the beloved Dot Cotton on EastEnders. How much money did the popular actress have in the bank?
Actress June Brown sadly passed away on April 3, 2022, aged 95.
EastEnders paid tribute to the star on the show yesterday as the episode depicted her character Dot’s funeral.
There were some unexpected guests on the Albert Square scene, none other than three of June’s five real life children, Nim, Sophie and Billy.
Executive producer of EastEnders Chris Clenshaw told Express.co.uk that the show “obviously meant a lot to June” and in turn, her family.
How much money did the star make during her two-decade stint?
According to networthspedia.com, the actress had between £1million and £3.8million in the bank when she passed away.
This has reportedly been divided between June’s five grown-up children.
She was in the popular soap between 1985 and 1993 and again between 1997–2020.
In 2020 the star ditched Albert Square for the Emerald Isle when she relocated to Ireland at the age of 93.
Before EastEnders, June was a familiar face on the small screen on a number of shows.
These included Coronation Street, Doctor Who, The Bill and Angels, among others.
For her services to the industry, June was appointed an MBE in the 2008 Birthday Honours for services to drama and to charity.
In 2022, she was promoted to an OBE in the 2022 New Year Honours. The actress also won some accolades for her work on a soap opera.
In 2005, she won Best Actress at the Inside Soap Awards and received the Lifetime Achievement award at The British Soap Awards.
In 2009, she was nominated for the BAFTA TV Award for Best Actress but lost out to Poppy Shakespeare’s Anna Maxwell Martin.
June was an adored member of the EastEnders’ cast and fans of the show were devastated by her in real life and on screen death.
Soap opera fan @MatthewFoster20 took to Twitter to speak about the “saddest TV show death of all time”.
Just today he tweeted: “Only happened recently but Dot’s funeral was so upsetting. It was losing your own grandma after losing June Brown.”
@marieb811 said: “@bbceastenders Fantastic episode and beautiful tribute to #JuneBrown.”
“You broke me when #ianbeale turned up and finished me off when you buried #dot with #ethel. When you do an iconic episode you do it well.”
