EPHRAIM HARDCASTLE: Will King Charles be breathing a sigh of relief at Kevin Spacey’s not-guilty verdict?

Will King Charles be breathing a sigh of relief at Kevin Spacey’s not-guilty verdict?

American Spacey has picked up two honorary gongs and both were, unusually, presented in private audiences with Charles at Clarence House.

In 2010, he was handed a CBE and, in 2016, Charles presented Spacey with a knighthood.

The star-struck actor/director posted a photo of him and Charles on Facebook, saying: ‘I may play a president on TV, but in real life I’m now a Sir.

‘Thanks HRH – what a prince of a guy!’

The benevolent jury ensures that HM doesn’t have to suppress Kevin’s gush.

Harry’s phone-hacking setback, making him one of the few royals to suffer a loss during a court case, is coupled with his position as the first legitimate adult son of a sovereign not to be made a Knight of the Garter since the order was founded by Edward III in 1348.

The King is one of the rare monarchs not to have gartered at least one of their sons.

Prince William was made the 1,000th Knight of the Garter by the late Queen in 2008.

And since women were readmitted by Edward VII, Charles is the only king not to garter his consort – Queen Elizabeth gartered Camilla last year.

Unless there is a dramatic reconciliation with his father, Harry’s unfortunate Garter record stands.

Simon Napier-Bell, one of the late Sinead O’Connor’s managers, recalls a post-concert telephone call to her Dubai dressing room.

‘She didn’t want to answer it so she handed it to me,’ he remembers.

‘Can I talk to Sinead?’ the voice said.

‘Who is it?’

‘Gerry Adams.’

It didn’t seem strange. He was simply one of Sinead’s long-time friends.

And she didn’t give him any special courtesy either. Just took the phone from me and told him: ‘Sorry, Gerry – can’t talk now.’ Then clicked off.’

Sinead felt unfairly overshadowed by Australian warbler Kylie Minogue, pictured, resenting her frequent triumphs in the now-derided Rear of the Year contest.

‘Kylie used to always win it,’ wailed Sinead.

‘I had a way better a*** than Kylie in my day,’ adding, forlornly: ‘I never entered myself in Rear of the Year when I should have.’

Four years after the death of his husband David Oldham, celebrity cleric Richard Coles has found new love with actor Richard Cant.

‘Watching him at work makes my heart beat faster; he’s stunning,’ gushes Richard.

‘When I saw him in The Vortex at Chichester, I felt like standing up and screaming: ‘That’s my Dickie!’

Ooh missus.

Gabby comic Rob Brydon recalls his encounter with Prince Harry while queuing for the lavatory at a London hotel.

‘I offered to stand aside so that he could use the loo,’ recalls Brydon.

‘He went: ‘Oh’. And I went: ‘It’s alright, you can go if you want to, your royal highness.’

He adds: ‘But I came out of there thinking: “What the hell did you do that for?” He probably thought you were the bellhop, Rob!’
