Choosing a baby name is not an easy task for parents. Often, people take time to decide the potential moniker of the sprog.

Some decide to source inspiration from a beloved family member, or perhaps a favourite TV character. While others take influence from religious texts or even the Royal Family.

But, as time and culture progress, baby names do as well. That also means names fade in and out of popularity.

At the moment the most popular girls name is Lily whereas for lads, it's Muhummad. But, it looks like a name that was once thought to be 'extinct' for new tots is making a comeback.

At the moment, the biblical name Noah is making its way up the list – along with the female names Sophia and Olivia. Although, these are not particularly shocking.

However, one 'geezer' type name is on the rise for new-borns in the UK – and that is Gary. Yes, that's right. Gary is making a comeback in 2023, according to the UK Baby Names website.

The moniker that usually belongs to the slightly older generation is currently a "trending name" for this year. It all started last year when the four lettered male name popped up on the top 100 list after parents started to name their lads 'Gary' again. So it looks like we might be in for a lot of little Gary's tottering around in the next few years.

But the 'Boomer' name isn't the only one to make an unexpected return. Apparently, according to BabyCentre, David, John, Ian, Sebastian, Sarah and Layla are becoming the go-to for new-borns as parents are seeking inspiration from "classic Gen X" names.

Well, who would have thought we'd being having little Ian's and Gary's running around the playground in a few years time!
