Fauda, the breakout Israeli thriller drama, is unexpectedly returning for a fifth season, Deadline has confirmed with sources.
Yes, the Israeli network behind the show, reportedly unveiled plans for a new season of the show at an event earlier this week. Ilan Sigal, CEO of Yes, appeared on stage with co-creator Avi Issacharoff to confirm the news, according to several Israeli media outlets.
Fauda, which means ‘chaos’ in Arabic, became a huge international hit for Netflix after the streamer licensed the first four seasons of the show. It follows Doron, a commander in Israel’s Mista’arvim counter-intelligence unit, and regularly touches on the Israel-Palestine conflict.

It garnered significant viewing in countries such as Lebanon and cut through in Europe, Asia and the U.S. There have been several remakes, including in India where SonyLIV ordered Tanaav, a Hindi remake.
Season four launched last year and was expected to be the final run. Today’s news changes that. It’s not clear whether season five will launch on Netflix internationally or in the U.S.
The drama was co-created by Faraway Road’s Lior Raz and Avi Issacharoff, and is produced by Liat Benasuly and Yes TV. Noah Stollman returns was head writer on season four and Omri Givon (Hostages) directed all episodes. Tel Aviv-based Yes Studios handles international sales.
Issacharoff and Raz, who used their experiences from the Israel Defense Forces as inspiration for Fauda, will reportedly return for the fifth season. They sold Faraway Road to Candle Media in an eight-figure deal in 2022.
