Ferne McCann’s unusual baby name meaning explained as star reveals daughter is called Finty

Ferne McCann has welcomed her second daughter, and revealed her very unique moniker.

The former TOWIE star has named their newest addition Finty Francis Haines.

Speaking exclusively to OK!, Ferne, 32, said: "It was on my name list when I gave birth to Sunday. I don’t know where I got it from, but when I typed it in [on Google] I saw Judi Dench’s daughter’s nickname is Finty. I’ve always loved it and never heard it anywhere else before.

“I just feel so connected to the name – she came out and she was just Finty. I think she sounds like a character out of Bridgerton.”

The name Finty is a girl’s name of English origin, meaning “pure,” according to MummyPages.

According to Popular Baby Names, only four babies were named Finty across the whole of the UK in 2019.

Ferne explained she chose Francis for her daughter’s middle name, using the traditional male spelling, to honour a very special family member.

Explaining the sweet reason for her middle name, Ferne said: “Francis is my grandad’s name – it’s a nod to Grandad Frank."

The traditional name is of Latin origin, meaning "Frenchman" or "free man".

The reality star gave birth to her first child with fiancé Lorri Haines on 6 July.

She's already mum to five year old daughter Sunday, who she shares with jailed ex Arthur Collins.

Speaking to OK! in March, Ferne revealed details about her and 32 year old Lorri’s baby name ideas, birth plan and what her daughter Sunday will be like as a big sister. The star chose not to find out the gender before the birth – but she did admit that she had a preference.

She said: “I would love a girl, just because I’ve got my girl’s name and I feel like a girl mum because I’ve got Sunday. I can only see myself with girls.”

Lorri laughed: “I don’t know if I can live in a house with four girls.”

The now mum-of-two previously revealed to OK! that she hoped to have the birth filmed for her ITV2 series, First Time Mum. Ahead of the birth she told us: "I really want my birth on the show. I want to have that moment.” However, Lorri wasn't so sure.

She continued: "We’re currently in discussions with Lorri because obviously before when I was pregnant with Sunday, it was just me as a single parent. I never had to deliberate or liaise with anyone, I just made my own decisions.

“But now obviously doing this experience with him, I do have to cross things past him, so we’re currently in discussions, but I just want to capture that moment.”
