Football and boozing are my husband's true loves – I've had enough | The Sun

DEAR DEIDRE: SADLY, my husband has two loves – and neither are me.

He’d prefers to drink wine and watch football and now I’d much rather live on my own than carry on with this lonely existence.

I’m 53 and my husband’s 54. We’ve been married for 30 years.

He drinks a bottle of wine every night and at least two bottles a day at the weekend.

He also has small bottles of wine stashed in his work bag, so I’m not sure how much he actually drinks.

His free time is organised around football and if he’s not watching it, or reading about it, he’s moaning about work, drinking too much or sleeping.

He lies in until noon at the weekend unless he’s going to a match and has no interest in doing anything with me.

Divorce seems the only way out.

DEIDRE SAYS: I’m not surprised that you’ve had enough.

At a very basic level your needs are not being met.

Explain to your husband that you are really unhappy and things can’t continue like this.

His drinking levels are concerning. He may be depressed so urge him to see his GP.

If he is unwilling to change then make it clear you have no option but to start divorce proceedings.

My support pack Dealing With A Problem Drinker will help, as will one called Relationship MOT.
