A frugal bride has made her own wedding cake 12 hours before saying her vows but the bride-to-be has been savaged by cruel trolls.

The DIYer – TikTok user @darlinggoose – made the cakes two days ahead of the wedding and chilled them. She then started decorating at midnight the day before her vows.

She used Betty Crocker rainbow cake mix to make the sponge and topped it off with a load of icing and sprinkles.

When it was all done, Laura said it was 'so cute' but some cruel trolls on TikTok branded the cake a "joke".

"Is this a joke, because looks like more for birthday," one wrote.

"Oh my God there's no way you used that at your real wedding," a second commented.

Another critic said: "If you had torted your cake [adding layers to it], it would have looked closer to a professional cake.

"Not doing that one step is why the cake looks like a volcano."

Some defended the bride-to-be, though, with one writing: "If you’re happy with it, that’s all that matters. It's your day! Congrats!"

"Guarantee it tastes 100% better than every dry, dense, fondant covered “professional” wedding cake I’ve ever eaten," another agreed.

The news comes after a bride left people reeling when she offered her guests better food if they were willing to give a bigger cash gift, and there was also a "premium" option for those who were willing to splurge over £2,000 on the couple.

After fuelling backlash on Facebook, a photo of the tiered menu was later shared on Reddit's wedding shaming forum where users dubbed the American couple as "tacky."
