Looking younger does not need to cost the earth. Facial yoga practitioner and all-round wellness guru Victoria Adams spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk about the power of facial passage and how women can reverse the signs of ageing with just their hands. It only takes a few minutes.

Wrinkles are a pretty unavoidable sign of ageing, but it is certainly possible to delay them – or reduce them if you already have them.

Of course, there are plenty of treatments or ‘tweakments’ out there for those who have started to see wrinkles appear.

But Victoria advised that there is another method out there – facial yoga, which works to “help tone and train the muscles underneath the skin”.

The benefit of facial yoga over paid treatments is that it is a “little bit less extreme, a little bit less daunting, far less invasive, and with far less potential negative outcomes” – not to mention being totally free.

However, if done correctly and enough, it can make your skin “more supple, firmer and lifted”, as well as boosting the circulation of blood.

Now facial yoga isn’t just for people who are yet to experience wrinkles – it is “preventative and curative”, meaning it can both nip wrinkles in the bud before they form or reduce the ones already there.

The exercises involve putting gentle pressure on the face with clean hands and fingers.

First, Victoria advised placing your thumbs on each side of the face, with the knuckles meeting into the centre of the eyebrows. Bring your knuckles in towards your thumbs, gliding across the face with some pressure.

A bit of redness in the area means the blood is flowing, with all the nutrients in the blood being carried to the skin cells – but it shouldn’t be painful.

Another technique is to use the pads of the index fingers to make small circles around the temples.

Finally, use your knuckles – the ones closest to the nail bed – and bring them up to the hairline, starting from the brow bone, again applying adequate pressure.

Victoria continued: “It’s also going to help your skin maximise the absorption of whatever skincare product you’re actually putting on your skin, soo you’re going to get more value for money.

Victoria also suggested that the more we practise facial massage, the more we’ll be aware of our foreheads and the wrinkle-inducing expressions we might be making on a daily basis.

She explained that you’ll start to notice just how much you are raising your eyebrows, and it will get easier to lower them over time until it starts to feel natural.

While cosmetic treatments are a “quick fix”, facial yoga is a more “cumulative effect”.

However, it can be done in just five minutes a day – or a few times per week – with your daily moisturiser, cleanser or serum, and your fingers.

But it is possible to be “red carpet ready” after just one practice, claimed the expert.
