EXCLUSIVE: Hip Hop Treasures EP Mira King has set up a UK production company focused on factual shows that “deliver novel perspectives and stories that are rarely told.”
King quietly opened London-headquartered Little Venice Studios a few months ago and has won start-up investment from Rosegown, a private investment team that champions diverse founders. The company has started taking projects to market and is in funded development on a talent-led ITV series for a Gen-Z audience.
King is a UK production vet. She set up factual indie Special Edition Films two decades ago and worked on more than 100 hours worth of content over the following 15 years, eventually expanding the company to become Special Edition Films North & London. She left in 2018 and has since been freelance-producing factual content such as ITV’s Inside the Crown, TLC’s Meghan and Harry: The Royal Baby Story and A+E’s Hip Hop Treasures. The latter followed rap icons and longtime TV stars LL Cool J and Ice T as they hunted for hip hop’s most sought-after memorabilia — from Flavor Flav’s clocks to The Notorious B.I.G.’s jersey from the “Juicy” video.

King said Little Venice’s “guiding ambition is to make purposeful, popular and truly diverse content for the global market,” adding: “Little Venice Studios is progressive, innovative and delivers novel perspectives and stories that are rarely told.”
“I set up my first company in 2003, when the idea of a diverse woman in charge was a real novelty, but 20 years on the landscape is completely changed,” she added. “I’m proud to have been part of that change, but there is so much more to be done and Little Venice Studios is ready to meet that challenge”.
