I make hundreds a month renting out one side of my bed – even my ex has stayed

If you're single you'll often find you have an empty side to your bed.

But – it's nothing to feel bad about – as one woman is proving it can actually be pretty useful.

This is because she makes some extra cash by renting it out.

Monique Jeremiah simply views the process as a "business transaction", as she isn't romantically involved with any of her bed sharers.

The unusual side hustle sees her rake in nearly £400 a month for simply renting her pillows.

Known as "hot bedding", the idea sees several tenants of a home share a bed that works via a "shift" operating basis.

When in bed together the 36-year-old said everything is always purely platonic.

She said strict rules are put in place to ensure this stays the same, especially as her most recent "hot bedder" was her ex.

Monique told 7 Life: "I’m an entrepreneur, I’m used to thinking outside of the box.

"Make sure the person has good values, they are open-minded, respectful and only want a platonic relationship.

"I think someone with a good business mind and someone who values companionship would be great."

Monique, from Queensland, Australia, charges people $170 a week to those keen to share her bed.

This comes in at around £85.50 a week in the UK, which means she makes just under £4,500 a year by renting the space.

She said the extra cash comes in handy, as it helps her to pay her mortgage and bills.

During the pandemic, Monique decided she could make some money out of the extra space in her bed.

Her ex-partner worked between two cities, and was keen to shack up in the bed for a bargain rate.

They'd go to bed at around 10pm and would simply pop their headphones in and have some much-needed alone time.

It's worked well for her, but she told other homeowners to be cautious before taking the plunge.

Even though it's been a great way to make cash, she hasn't hot bedded that much lately.

This is because she's been super busy working as a model, reality TV star and entrepreneur.

Nonetheless, she said she'd be up for doing it again in the future as it helped her in more ways than one.

Monique also stared in Farmer Wants a Wife Australia earlier this year where she was seen pursuing Latin dance-loving Andrew, who was a crop and sheep farmer from New South Wales.
