There are a lot of valid reasons one might take issue with Kendall Jenner. Her infamous Pepsi commercial, the declaration that Tupac Shakur is her spirit animal and those very questionable knife skills are just a few.

But for retired Australian basketball player Andrew Bogut the problem isn’t so much her attempt to solve racial injustice with a soft drink, but rather the men she dates, specifically NBA players.
Taking aim at the model via Twitter, Bogut wrote, “With the 2022 @NBA draft completion yesterday, one big name has yet to find a home. Which team will snap up @KendallJenner? Solid talent, versatile, marks around team culture + habit of endless self promotion [sic]. Doctors will need to do medical as body has been banged up.”
When the 37-year-old’s comments were called out, Bogut doubled down by adding another tweet that read, “I would like to formally apologize for this tweet. My scout forgot to include the elite level of rebounding. I will do better in the future.”
At seven feet tall, you’d think Bogut would be able to aim a little higher than the low-hanging fruit of slut-shaming a woman for who she chooses to sleep with. In this case, Bogut is allegedly referring to Jenner’s most recent split from Phoenix Suns’ Devin Booker, whom she dated for two years.
Then again, that Bogut holds such a dated opinion about a woman’s right to freely date as she pleases shouldn’t be all that surprising. Earlier this year, data collected by Ipsos and the Global Institute for Women’s Leadership revealed that Australian men hold some of the most misogynistic and sexist views in the world when it comes to women.
“Australian men hold some of the most misogynistic and sexist views in the world when it comes to women.”
If you’re wondering who Jenner’s current and/or former flames are, you’re not alone. Despite being a member of one of the most famous families in the world, Jenner is notorious for keeping her love life away from the clan’s reality TV show and refuses to comment on the specifics of her romantic life.
Given that her most recent relationships have been with NBA players, you could argue that she does have a type. But she’s also dated just as many musicians over the years.
Last year, when his daughter was slut-shamed for having dated two AFL players, retired footballer and radio host Brendan Fevola called out the double standard, saying, “Blokes can do whatever they want. They can go and date girls and no one judges them. It’s a lad thing. But as soon as a girl does it…” He added, “Mia’s been with a couple of football players. That’s okay. People date tradies. She’s a 21-year-old girl. When we were 21 we [men] were doing whatever we wanted.”
When it comes to dating, most people have a type. One only needs to look at the many musicians who exclusively date Victoria’s Secret angels or Leonardo DiCaprio’s endless list of young models. But seemingly, men having a type is OK, it’s only when women reveal themselves to be similar that problems arise.
If Andrew Bogut really does have an issue with who his former peers choose to date, there’s a much simpler way to go about it than to create a vitriolic bandwagon of hatred and aim it at a young woman and her sexual choices, and that’s to speak to the men involved and challenge their decisions instead of hers. But perhaps that’s too great a reach.
