Sunbed wars have been raging across the continent this summer, with holidaymaykers on the Costa del Sol queueing for two hours and using their children to race ahead of older tourists to secure a spot.
But Laura Lowe, 31, from Bristol may have just found a ‘genius’ way of avoiding waking up early to beat frenzied crowds for a comfortable spot to soak up the sun.
Taking to her TikTok account @laurajaynelowe, she posted a video explaining to her 7,000 followers how she came up with an innovative hack to avoid the ‘sunbed war’ taking place at her Costa del Sol hotel.
The mother advised fellow sun worshippers to pack a must-have item when jetting off on holiday – an inflatable, portable sunbed.

Sick of the pressure to find an available lounger while on holiday, Laura demonstrated how to set up a portable, inflatable sunbed that can be packed easily into a suitcase
In the video, titled “Ep 1 of how my anxiety ruined will ruin my holiday – sunbed war edition” and uploaded on August 1, Laura told her supporters exactly what inspired the idea.
She said: ‘So I booked a holiday without reading the in-depth reviews. I had a nosy at the reviews – didn’t really read in full.
‘Anyway, turns out it is, like, the worst sunbed war you’ve seen in your life where I’m going. I mean, it is, like, all gated off and the beds are chained up until the guy comes and takes them off at like 8.30 [am]’
The mum then revealed the shocking display that takes place once the chains are removed from the beds.
She said: ‘Then everyone runs. But, I don’t mean you have to go down there with, like, 10 minutes before and queue – people are apparently queueing from, like, half five or six in the morning.’
‘Now, my anxious self cannot deal with this. Call me crazy – but here’s what I’ve done.’
Laura then produced a box and held it up to the screen, revealing her not-so-impulse buy.
She continued: ‘I ordered a portable sun lounger. Am I an absolute d***head or am I an absolute genius?!’
‘Am I a genius or am I an absolute idiot that just has really bad anxiety?’ the mum asked out look as she explained the reason behind her idea to buy an inflatable sunbed
The mum then highlighted the inflatable sunbed’s advantages and described its specifications to her followers.
She stated: ‘Let me tell you: it weighs 2kg – barely anything. It’s inflatable, so it can go completely flat in my case.
‘As long as I take an air pump – which I have – anywhere, you can suck it out and put air back in. It’s no bigger than a lilo to carry down to the pool.’
She asked: ‘Am I a genius or am I an absolute idiot that just has really bad anxiety?’
Supporters gathered in Laura’s comments to show appreciation for the ‘genius’ idea and even shared that they are considering buying one to avoid the ‘sun bed wars’
One bemused person said, ‘Hahaha you are genius girl’ while another agreed, saying, ‘Haha I don’t blame you genius I say.’
Laura ended the video by demonstrating how the sunbed fits perfectly in her medium-sized case, and even provided a quick time-lapse of how it is easily set up from start to finish, before sitting in it comfortably with a satisfied smile.
Supporters gathered in the comments to share their appreciation for the suggestion and confirming that her idea is, indeed, a ‘genius’ one.
A commenter inquired as to where Laura bought the lounger from, writing, ‘Genius. Where did you buy it please?’

One user explained her own frustration in regards to seeking out a sunbed while on holiday, saying: ‘Genius. I’m actually tempted to get one I hate sun bed wars I’m on holiday – I ain’t getting up at 6am.’
Resorts in Spanish regions such as Costa del Sol, Tenerife and Benidorm – top destinations for both sun and bargain-loving Brits – have notoriously become the unfortunate hosts of so-called ‘sunbed wars.’
The sunbed wars have quickly evolved in recent years into hours-long queues beginning at dawn – with some families even using their ‘fitter and faster’ children to beat older holidaymakers.
In late July, the sunbed war was turned up a notch as Costa del Sol holidaymakers frantically raced for loungers – after a referee’s whistle was blown.
The hilarious footage shows the moment holidaymakers get the whistle as they raced to collect their sunbeds for the day.
