‘I’m a Christmas tree decorator and already booked up – I’ve made £1.5k so far’

Meet the professional Christmas tree decorator who's set to make up to £2,000 this season.

Janine Ralph, 30, loves interior design so much that she's turned it into a side hustle. Now she decorates festive trees, pocking a fortune along the way.

It all happened when she adverted a Christmas tree decorating service on Facebook last year. The mum-of-two was shocked to see how much interest she got from it.

This Christmas, knowing how just popular she'd be, Janine started taking bookings from July and even upped her prices too.

Janine is fully booked now with 27 clients desperate for her services – which start from £40 for a 7ft tree. She now began working through her bookings which started as early as November 6.

Last year she ended up making around £300 profit – but this year she's aiming to triple that, and will use the money to cover the costs of family presents.

Janine, who also runs an independent gift business, from Bristol, said: "I've always loved interior design and decorating my own house. All my friends said I should do it as a service – and I never looked back.

"I thought I'll give it a go again this year because I really enjoy it. When I announced my books were open back in July, loads of people booked in straight away.

"It's half way through November and I'm fully booked up."

Creative Janine charges different prices depending on services – starting at £40 for a standard-sized, pre-erected tree. She ups the price if the client needs her to assemble it and string up the lights.

Janine has had no formal training but thanks to online inspiration and a creative eye, she always makes them look spectacular. She either uses her clients decorations or charges a fee to buy some.

Based on her current 27 bookings starting in early November, she's forecasted to bring in around £1,500 – after exceeding her original goal of £1,000.

Now she hopes to hit £2,000 this year and says will "completely cover" the cost of her family's Christmas.

She concluded: "The extra cash will help out loads – it will cover the cost of Christmas this year. I love doing it as well – I get a little kick out of it when people compliment my work.

"I'm very fussy – if I don't think it looks right, I'll move things around. Every tree I do needs to look perfect." The mum added: "I've already got people asking when I open my books for next year!"

Now that's one side hustle!
