A therapist has revealed her top five top tips for singletons who are searching for a serious relationship.

Dr Annie Zimmerman, a psychotherapist from east London, shared a TikTok video with a number of different ways to approach dating life. 

As she sat on her sofa stroking her dog Albie, she shared her first tip – to embody the person that you are trying to attract. 

She said: ‘If you want someone who is emotionally available and a good communicator lead by example and communicate and be available to them.’

Her second piece of advice was not to force things. ‘Listen to your gut and be prepared to say no quickly if things don’t feel right,’ she said.

Dr Zimmerman also gave a warning sign and red flag to look out for when you are on the dating scene. 

She said: ‘Watch out for that intense chemistry that makes your head spin and feel like you’re on a roller coaster because things are so up and down. 

‘This might actually be a red flag. This isn’t going to be the stable love that you’re looking for.’

Dr Zimmerman then revealed her fourth piece of advice – don’t date ‘projects’ or someone’s potential. 

She said: ‘If you don’t like how someone is right now and you’re in a relationship hoping that one day they’ll change, chances are you’re going to be disappointed.

‘And it will lead to heartbreak longer down the line.’ 

Her final tip for singletons is to only put your energy into things that feel reciprocal and equal. 

‘You cannot feel safe and secure with someone who is uncertain about you, who is in a situationship, or who is blowing hot and cold.

Dr Zimmerman said that you should always listen to your gut and take notice if things don’t feel right
