Is Wetherspoons showing the World Cup and can you book a table? | The Sun

FOOTBALL fans will be keen to know if they can watch the World Cup final in their local Wetherspoons.

The Women's World Cup kicked off last month, with England's Lionesses now set to play Spain in the final on Sunday.

Wetherspoons has been airing each game so far throughout the tournament, and Sunday's big game will be no different.

Almost all of the chain's 827 pubs are taking part and only the branches without TVs haven't.

It comes after Wetherspoons decided to show the men's football World Cup for the first time ever in December last year.

A spokesman for the boozer said: "Television coverage of the matches will be screened at the pubs for the duration of the tournament, which concludes with the final on Sunday, August 20 at 11am.

Can I book a table to watch?

Wetherspoons doesn't allow punters to book tables ahead of visiting their local.

The chain operates on a first-come-first-served basis and the Women's World Cup final will be no different.

So if you're keen to watch the Lionesses on Sunday you'll need to get there early to secure a table.

Will the sound be on?

The TVs will be muted throughout matches, although subtitles will be on.

This will reflect Wetherspoon's usual routine outside of the World Cup period where the news is usually screened in silence.

The popular chain has about two million people a week go to their pubs and are known for being sound-free.

This decision has been made out of respect for people who aren't interested in football.

Although the final decision will fall to the manager of each individual pub who may decide to ramp the sound up for the match.

The same was done for the screening of the Men's World Cup last winter too.
