King Charles received ‘trendy’ Christmas present he’s unlikely to wear in public

Some family members are harder to buy presents for than others, and the King of England can't be an easy one to narrow down a gift for.

However, King Charles will likely be pleased with one of his presents, after dropping hints that something had caught his eye a few weeks before Christmas during a lunch at Buckingham Palace.

The gift? A pair of bright yellow crocs, matching the ones worn by artist David Hockney at the Order of Merit lunch in November. The King reportedly took a shine to the bright footwear, remarking: “Your yellow galoshes!” and describing them as “beautifully chosen.”

However, a source to theDaily Mail's Ephraim Hardcastle column said that it is unlikely that we will see His Majesty out and about in his new bright yellow footwear anytime soon, likely saving the gift to wear in the comfort of his home or perhaps strolling the grounds of Balmoral.

King Charles was instead seen out in respectable brown brogues when attending the morning service at St Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham.

Charles shook hands with Reverend Canon Paul Williams before the annual service, and was also seen speaking to royal fans who had gathered, eager to pose in pictures with the monarch.

This outing came after Charles’ emotionalfirst Christmas speech, which he largely dedicated to his late mother and the fighting spirit of the UK.

"I am standing here in this exquisite Chapel of St. George at Windsor Castle, so close to where my beloved mother, the late Queen, is laid to rest with my dear father,” he said, referencingPrince Phillip, who died in April 2021.

"I am reminded of the deeply touching letters, cards and messages which so many of you have sent my wife and myself and I cannot thank you enough for the love and sympathy you have shown our whole family."

The speech also acknowledged the “great anxiety and hardship” that many are currently experiencing around the world.

“Be it for those around the world facing conflict, famine or natural disaster, or for those at home finding ways to pay their bills and keep their families fed and warm, we see it in the humanity of people throughout our nations and the Commonwealth who so readily respond to the plight of others,” he said.

The King made no mentions ofPrince HarryandMeghan Markleduring his speech, despite it being just weeks after the release of their bombshell Netflix docuseries,Harry & Meghan.

Former royal butlerGrant Harrold told GB Newsthat the King had “no real reason” to mention the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

He explained: “I think the reality is that for the King, he obviously talked about the Prince and Princess of Wales and their recent visit to Wales, which was a significant moment for the Royal Family.

“I think with everything that's gone on recently, it was probably best not to mention Harry and Meghan.”
