Liverpool vs Toulouse betting preview

It’s hard not to have been impressed by Liverpool’s start to the season, one which has seen them win nine of their first 12 games in all competitions.

Only one has been lost and that came in the very last minute at Spurs when they were down to nine men – and after they’d had a perfectly-good goal disallowed.

The Europa League may not be their priority but they’ve shown that their squad depth is more than capable of easing them through to the knockout stage with maximum points banked so far.

With Toulouse currently sitting in the bottom half of Ligue 1, having won only two of nine in that competition, another victory seems likely here.

The bookies certainly think so and with Liverpool around 1/5 to win the game, there’s little value in siding with them.

It means the Reds are also short in the handicap betting and that’s a market I’m loath to get involved with when you know a number of players are likely to be rested which can lead to a lack of cohesion.

That was the case on matchday one when Liverpool found themselves 1-0 at LASK only for Jurgen Klopp to bring on some of his stars to sort things out.

A better betting approach to this one looks to be to seek value in the props markets and our best selections are outlined below.

However, as is often the case in this competition, it may well be worth waiting for the team news before placing your bets as it’s hard to be sure of what Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI will be.

📝 Liverpool vs Toulouse key stats

  • Liverpool have won nine and lost only one of their 12 games so far this season, with both Europa League matches having reaped victories.
  • Toulouse have won only three of their 11 matches, although they have also only lost two. Seven of those matches have landed the under 2.5 goals bet.
  • Referee Rade Obrenovic has shown at least five cards in 10 of his last 14 UEFA club appointments.
  • Liverpool have Curtis Jones available again after domestic suspension, while Darwin Nunez is pushing for a start having only played as a sub in Saturday’s Merseyside derby. Andy Robertson remains a notable injury absentee.
  • Toulouse have Zakaria Aboukhlal and Oliver Zanden out injured but Stijn Spierings and Logan Costa are available having served domestic and European suspensions respectively.

Liverpool vs Toulouse best bets

Here's what we have in store for you today:

Gabriel Suazo to be carded

Booked three times in nine starts for his club this season, Suazo looks a spot of value here.

The Chilean was also carded on international duty last week and could well be up against Mo Salah at Anfield. If so, this promises to be one of his toughest nights of the season.

Toulouse have picked up 10 cards in their two Europa League games so far and with Slovenian ref Rade Obrenovic not one to hold back (see above), Suazo looks a chunky price.

Back Suazo to be carded at 14/5 at Spreadex

Kostas Tsimikas anytime assist

With Andy Robertson having dislocated his shoulder, Tsimikas is set for a decent run in the Liverpool side at left-back – and that could bring assists.

The Greek averages one every 292 minutes for Liverpool – that’s better than both of his fellow full-backs Robertson (373) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (323).

He added another for his country in Euro 2024 qualifying last week and if Liverpool dominate this like the odds suggest, he could well get involved in creating the goals.

Bet on Tsimikas to assist at any time at 7/2 at bet365

Darwin Nunez 1+ headed shot on target

Nunez looks likely to start here, as he has in both Europa League matches so far. Having just arrived back from South America, the Uruguayan only made the bench against Everton but this looks a great chance for him to get fully involved once more.

He’s had six headers in his five starts this season, hitting the target with three of them.

Whoever plays at centre-forward is pretty much guaranteed good supply in this team and so Nunez looks worth a bet here at 13/8.

Back Nunez 1+ headed shot on target at 13/8 at Sky Bet
