There are plenty of options out there for women who want to look younger, but many of these will take a lot of your time and money. Makeup experts at Cult Beauty shared how mature ladies can take years off their face instantly with some handy makeup hacks.
Cult Beauty’s first tip was to invest in some “sunshine shades” – meaning yellow-tone products.
The experts explained: “Mature skin has a tendency to look washed out or lacklustre, so switch from pinky-toned complexion products (which can exaggerate high colour) to something with a hint of lemon yellow.
“This unexpected shade lends warmth to a wan pallor – believe us, it’s magical – and everyone will want to know the secret to your newfound glow.”
The experts recommended Jouer Cosmetics Luminizing Moisture Tint (£33) for a “youth-enhancing dewiness” in a variety of shades.
“Or try Stila’s Correct & Perfect All-in-One Correcting Palette” (£33) which has a yellow cream and setting powder to help unify uneven skin tone.”
Cult Beauty’s next makeup tip was to ditch the power products in favour of cream-based ones.
The experts explained: “Few things add years like a chalky, powdery skin-finish.
“Not only does powder have a tendency to migrate and settle into creases, but it ‘absorbs’ light and highlights any dry patches.

“Cream, liquid or crème textures are infinitely more forgiving – flexible and dewy, they look fresh and infinitely more youthful – as well as being more long-wearing.”
According to the experts, one product that’s essential to all makeup bags is the cream-based concealer.
They said: “Thinner skin and sluggish drainage mean that bags and shadows are a side-effect of growing older, but the right camouflage can work wonders.
“Disguise dark circles with a peachy-toned under-eye cream – ‘melting’ with your fingertips to create a diffused, soft focus look.”

The experts’ next tip focussed on mitigating an insecurity many women have as they age – saggy, non-defined skin.
Cult Beauty said: “As we grow older, our once-defined jawlines and cut-glass cheekbones often lose their razor-sharp edge.
“Use a sculpting cream two or three shades darker than your skin tone – it needs to simulate a shadow.”
Apply this to any “hollows” for example beneath the cheek and temples, as well as along the jaw for a “believable ‘3D’ effect”.
According to the experts, Kevyn Aucoin’s The Sculpting Duo (£22.50) “does the job, featuring a grey-toned ‘lowlight’ and shimmering ‘highlight’ to “enhance the features without looking too ‘try hard’”.
Finally, the makeup experts at Cult Beauty advised that older ladies use a damp sponge to apply their products.
“Tidelines are always a no-go, but never more so than when you’re old enough to know better,” they warned. A dampened Beauty Blender will eliminate any edges and create a flawless, “airbrushed” finish – think your skin, but better.
“And, if your skin is especially dry or lacklustre, finish by applying a couple of drops of face oil to your (still damp) sponge, and ‘bounce’ all over your complexion for a youthful glow.”
