Christian Siriano to the rescue.
Melissa McCarthy stood out from the crowd on the Oscars 2023 red carpet Sunday night, dressed in a bold red gown by the fashion designer that featured long sleeves, a high neck and a layered tulle skirt — but the look almost didn’t come together in time.
Appearing on E!’s red carpet pre-show, the former “Project Runway” designer revealed that the ballgown was made from scratch just a few days before the Academy Awards after a pipe burst in his design studio, ruining a number of dresses meant for the carpet.
“We were just freaking out all day,” Siriano said. “I took the last dress with me on the plane yesterday … I dropped it off myself.”
Added the designer of McCarthy’s look, “It’s a big moment. She’s about to be in such an incredible film for Disney playing Ursula in ‘The Little Mermaid,’ how fabulous. So I just wanted to give her a really fabulous fashion moment.”
While Siriano called the pre-Oscars ordeal “traumatizing,” he told E!, “I wasn’t gonna say anything about what really happened because I don’t want the actress who’s wearing something to know that her dress was fully remade.”
McCarthy, 52, appeared with her “Little Mermaid” co-star Halle Bailey — who stunned in a baby blue Dolce & Gabbana princess dress — to present the first official trailer for the forthcoming Disney live-action movie.
The first look at the “Bridesmaids” actress as Ursula the Sea Witch proved to be powerful, with fans delighting in her spooky transformation.
“Melissa mccarthy finna put her entire octo-puss in poor unfortunate soul im so excited,” one person tweeted. Another said, “Melissa McCarthy is giving me chills. She’s going to slay as Ursula.”

The movie stars Bailey as Ariel, Javier Bardem as King Triton, Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric, Daveed Diggs as Sebastian, Jacob Tremblay as Flounder and Awkwafina as Scuttle.
Lin Manuel-Miranda — who is rumored to make a cameo as the voice of Chef Louis — co-wrote four new songs for the film, which is scheduled to be released theatrically on May 26.
McCarthy has plenty of time to continue channeling her character in the weeks to come — not to mention putting other poor unfortunate souls to shame on the red carpet.
