We love it when Michelle Keegan is out filming scenes for Brassic because she always introduces us to new hairstyles and beauty looks. And this week the actress is showing off intricate, bubble braided high ponytails.
Posing from what looks like her on-set changing room, Michelle simply captions the mirror selfie “Bubble braids today”. We imagine this look must have taken ages for her hairstylist to perfect, as the style features bubble detailing on the mid-lengths of her ponytails, as well as plait work towards the root sections. It’s very “noughties meets Disney princess”, we feel.
If you haven’t heard of a bubble braid before, it’s a look that was born in the early 2000s and one that’s also having a bit of a resurgence thanks to Euphoria (an HBO teen drama starring Zendaya). These braids might look too elaborate to copy at home, but trend specialist Nick Drewe from Wethrift explains they’re actually much easier to perfect than French or Dutch braids, largely because this bubble style doesn’t involve any braiding at all.
“Bubble braids are thankfully very easy to style, despite how complicated they may look. To pull the aesthetic off, you first need to make sure that you have all the right supplies: hair elastics and strong-hold hairspray,” he says. “To achieve the perfect bubble shape between each elastic band, loosen the hair by pulling each section until it forms a round, bubble-like look, then add in a hair tie. Continue down the hair until you have several bubbles.”
Michelle’s trendy look comes just hours after she caused quite a stir with her Instagram followers, who took a quick glance at her new grid photos from a Very campaign and assumed she’d gone for a big chop.
The 35 year old poses for the fashion shoot with her hair pulled back into a braid and tucked into the clothing – hence why followers wondered whether she’d had a dramatic bob-like haircut.
“Really thought she'd gone for the chop and now think she should!” one fan comments, while a second adds: “I think your hair looks stunning short.”
A third writes: “She's stunning but her hair’s not been cut off. It's in a big plait…”
Since Michelle has been a long-haired girl for her whole working life, we can’t imagine she’s thinking about chopping off her thick, healthy tresses. If she does, we’ll be the first to let you in on the news!
