Busan Announces New Currents, Jiseok Line-ups With Strong Showing From Bangladesh, Japan

Busan’s awards to recognise streaming and TV content, now known as the Asia Content Awards and Global OTT Awards, recently joined forces with the International OTT Festival, hosted by Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT and Busan Metropolitan City, to open up its nominations to global content. As a result, the awards categories have increased from 12 to 17, across both competitive and non-competitive categories.

Nominees in the newly added Best Reality & Variety category include Netflix’s Physical: 100 and Let’s Feast Vietnam, the latter produced by BHD Vietnam Media Corp, as well as the Korean version of Saturday Night Live, SNL Korea, which streams on Coupang Play. Shows from Korean streamers & telcos Wavve, TVing and LG Uplus, as well as the Philippines GMA Network, are also nominated in this category.

The nominations jury commented: “In the process of narrowing down the field from over 200 submissions to around 30 finalists, it was challenging to exclude many outstanding works. This year, the influence of global OTT platforms like Netflix and Disney+ remained significant. We made careful efforts in the judging process to maintain a balance with the remarkable local contents from various Asian countries.”

The 2023 Asia Content Awards & Global OTT Awards will be held at Busan Cinema Center on October 8.
