Mum throws Build-A-Bear party for daughter and makes sobbing kids hand toys over

When your child is invited to a birthday party, you expect costs to be covered.

Unless a parent mentions any extra fee on the invite, it’s typical to just show up on the day with a card or prezzie. So when one mum expected guests to stump up, it sparked chaos.

The “entitled” woman threw a party a Build-A-Bear Workshop – but didn’t let the daughter’s friends take home the cuddly toys they’d created.

Angry parents vented their frustration over the incident on Reddit, the Mirror reports. The post first circulated in 2019 but has now re-surfaced.

It reads: "The party was being held at Build a Bear, but it wasn’t run by the employees. We had cake and pizza in the food court, then went down to BAB to make bears, then back to friends house for the rest of the party.

"The invitation said each kid (about eight total) would get to make a Bear, and I just assumed they would get to take them home, since that is what happened at another BAB party I went to. Me and my husband even pitched in about 30 dollars as we know these things can get expensive.”

While in the store, the excited children made their bears. Conscious about costs for the birthday girls’ parents, the mum asked her little one to stick to a "standard dog with a shirt, which about half the parents did as well".

All seemed fine… until the party planner asked the children to hand over their teddies. Her reasoning was she wanted her daughter "to have a special animal decorated by each of her friends".

The Redditor added: "Friend's mum announces that the kids need to give all their animals to her daughter. Cue the upset and angry kids. They all disappointingly handed over their animals, and friend wasn’t even being nice about it either. Another little boy didn't want to, and friend ripped it out of his hands."

The birthday girl then started playing with the cuddly toys in front of the other children, which was very awkward. So the guests hastily left – some having to console their crying kids on the way out.

The Reddit post has garnered more than 3,300 upvotes since it was first posted four years ago. Hundreds also took the time to leave comments – with many blasting the party organiser.

One responder wrote: "That is really weird!! I can't believe the parents made all the kids give away their bears."

Another said: "They just set their child up for social failure. I would never attend another party they hosted."

And a third added: "That is not normal and it's not OK. They didn't give any prior warning? Wow. I would be livid."
