My best mate's heart is broken - I fear it's all my fault

DEAR DEIDRE: MY best mate’s heart is well and truly broken and I feel it’s all my fault.

We do up houses to sell on.

We are both 34 and work together all week and socialise at weekends.

He confessed to me and my wife that he was in love with my wife’s sister.

She’s 31.

We set them up at a barbecue and then they got together.

He got pretty depressed and pushed my sister-in-law away so she called it off.

Now he wants her back, but she’s having none of it.

He’s convinced she is the one so he shuts himself away and then turns up at our home in bits.

How can we help?

DEIDRE SAYS: You can’t make somebody feel something they don’t feel so if it is over for her, there may be no going back.

It may have been just a blip and she still likes him.

All you can do is ask your wife to talk to her and explain that he was stressed but things are looking better now.
