New 50p coin featuring Queen launched for BBC centenary – how much is it worth? | The Sun

THE Royal Mint has unveiled a new 50p coin to mark the BBC's centenary.

A portrait of Her Majesty the Queen will feature on the coin, which is expected to create a "high demand" among collectors.

The coins were produced before the Queen's death in September, but the Royal Mint said it was not replacing it with the portrait of King Charles III to "minimise waste".

The coins are uncirculated, so you won't find one hanging about in your loose change, but you might be able to snap one up online.

They can be bought for £11 from the Royal Mint's website.

The coin pays tribute to the BBC by showing a broadcasting mast emerging from the earth, and is inscribed with the words "inform, educate, entertain".

Rebecca Morgan, the Royal Mint's director of collector services, said: “Coins are miniature pieces of art which tell the stories of our nation.

“We are delighted to be working with Britain’s leading national broadcaster to create a special 50p in recognition of their 100 years.

"With the obverse side of the coin featuring the effigy of Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth, we do anticipate a high demand for these coins from collectors.”

BBC director-general Tim Davie said the broadcaster was “honoured” by the commemorative coin.
