Arresting development! Former Victorian police station that was converted into a boutique hotel goes on the market for £1.85million

A former Victorian police station that was converted into a boutique hotel has  gone on the market for £1.85million.

Alma Lodge was the site of Fulford’s first police station, built for East Riding Constabulary in 1880 and originally featured a charge-room, three cells and two dwelling houses for resident police officers. 

The historic building in Fulford, York, was given a luxurious makeover and high-tech upgrade in 2020 and is now on the market with estate agents Carter Jonas.

The distinctive facade remains on the outside, but the internal structure has been completely rebuilt and features 3,763 sq ft of accommodation, with three luxurious bedroom suites upstairs.

It is currently arranged as a boutique hotel, but could be reverted to a five-bedroom family home, with an entrance hall, kitchen, lounge, sitting room, dining room, bar, games room and an office on the ground floor.

After the First World War the historic building was split in two, with one part being used as a police house and the other as a boys’ remand home. 

The last officer moved out of the police house in 1966.

It was sold in 1969 and was mostly derelict when it was converted into flats in the 1970s and then became a hotel called Copper’s Lodge.

Daniel Curro and Moreno Carbone reinvented it as The Vices York in 2020 and it was named as one of the best places to stay in Britain and its restaurant Allium was named in the Michelin Guide.

But due to a change in their personal circumstances they closed the boutique hotel in September.

The building has now been upgraded with lots of smart technology, with underfloor heating throughout. 

It also features a home automation system, a commercial grade hot water system, electric blinds and curtain and electric roof-lights.

Outside it has a walled courtyard garden, driveway parking for 2-3 vehicles and an electric car charging point.

The entrance hall to the property has also remained in place since it was converted into a hotel, providing a warm welcome for any guests

The dining room features a luxurious dining table, from which people can peer into the kitchen 

A walk in shower and spacious bathroom is also available next to one of the bedroom suites

This comfortable lounge area in the property is the perfect place for any potential owners to wind down for the night 

The property features a unique wine rack, situated next to a dining table, which is ideal for hosting guests
