Queen Máxima and Princess Catharina-Amalia arrive in Curaçao

Ladies in red! Queen Máxima and Princess Catharina-Amalia of the Netherlands co-ordinate crimson outfits as they arrive in Curaçao

The royal family of the Netherlands put on a vibrant display as they arrived in Curaçao last night. 

Queen Máxima, 51, and her eldest daughter, Princess Catharina-Amalia, 19, wore matching crimson outfits for the occasion. 

After visiting Bonaire and Aruba, the Dutch royals are to stay in Curaçao until Monday, before heading to St Maarten, St Eustatius and Saba next week. 

Upon arriving, King Willem-Alexander, his wife and their daughter received a warm welcome from Lucille George-Wout, the Governor of Curaçao, at Willemstad’s harbour. 

The royals have a busy schedule ahead of them today, which also marks Máxima and Willem-Alexander’s 21st wedding anniversary.

While they set sail in Aruba in comfortable, loosing fitting trousers and tops, Máxima and Catharina-Amalia performed an outfit change on the boat before they arrived at their destination. 

The mother-of-three opted for a stylish crimson suit, with ankle-length wide trousers and a fitted blaser she wore over a rimmed beige top. 

Always keen on a piece of accessory, Máxima pinned a large, golden flower to the label of her blaser.  

The relaxed suit made her look effortlessly cool as she stepped out of the boat, wearing a pair of platform sandals and carrying a knitted brown handbag. 

The Dutch Queen’s blonde locks were styled in a neat bun, swooped to the back of her head, which revealed the pair of statement diamond earrings she accessorised with. 

The elegant royal freshened up her makeup on the boat, going for a more sophisticated look than what she previously donned earlier in the day. 

A touch of bronzer complimented her healthy glow with accents of gold, while some mascara brought her hazel eyes to life. 

A layer of pink lipstick softened the look, making sure the focus was on the Queen’s eyes.

The Dutch Queen looked impeccable after changing into a red suit ahead of the welcome ceremony 

Meanwhile, her daughter looked relaxing, wearing loose fitting white trousers with a top that matched her mother’s crimson suit. 

She added a touch of teenage drama with dark red nail polish, and sported a natural makeup with mascara and a touch of pink on her heart-shaped lips. 

Her long blonde hair was styled in a similar updo to her mother’s, revealing an impressive pair of green round earrings. 

Meanwhile, Willem-Alexander also changed into a navy suit, paired with a bright yellow and white tie. 

Upon their arrival, the royal trio were treated to a solemn welcome ceremony to mark the start of their stay in Curaçao. 

Máxima, Willem-Alexander and Catharina-Amalia have a busy schedule ahead of them until this weekend. 

Today they will start the day with a visit of Brión Square, where Willem-Alexander will start the registration for the King’s Games, after what, local school children will take part in sports games on the square. 

The Dutch royals will later move to tour the Otrabanda district, where they will meet residents and will be treated to musical performances, before having lunch at the Governor’s residence. 

This afternoon, they will visit the Punda district, where they will mark the 25th anniversary of Willemstad becoming a UNESCO World Heritage site. 

In honour of Catharina-Amalia, hey will take part in a painting class where they will paint a chichi, a traditional Curaçaoan sculpture representing the eldest, wise eldest daughter of the family 

Both Máxima and Catharina-Amalia were treated to flowers during the welcome ceremony last night 


Máxima looked effortlessly chic in her red trouser suit, which she paired with heels. Catharina-Amalia looked elegant in a pair of linen white trousers and a red shirt 

Catharina-Amalia wowed with a statement pair of green earrings with her blonde hair swept in an elegant updo 

The Dutch Queen and her daughter, who wore similar hairdos stood tall during the welcome ceremony 

Máxima, Catharina-Amalia and King Willem-Alexander will stay in Curaçao until the end of the week 

They will later visit the Scharloo district, where they will be explore the street art, music and the local youth sports projects. 

Today’s walking tour will end at Amalia Bridge, named after the heiress-to-the-throne, and the royal family will be treated to Amalia Waltz, a piece of music composed specially for the Princess.  

The day will end with a dinner at the Cathedral of Thorns, where Máxima, Willem-Alexander and their daughter will sit down with 21 residents who make a valuable contribution to their community. 

The number of guests was carefully selected to reflect the fact that today is the royal couple’s 21st wedding anniversary.

Their tour of Curaçao will resume on Friday, before the family enjoy some down-time at the weekend, before heading to Sint Marteen.
