The Oscar-winning star’s latest streaming project is a TV series adaptation of Dead Ringers, the cult classic 80s movie from David Cronenberg (director of The Fly and Crash).
The original movie saw Jeremy Irons play twin gynaecologists who take full advantage of the fact that nobody can tell them apart and start a relationship with the same woman.

What is Dead Ringers about?
The new adaptation will gender-swap the lead roles, with Weisz playing the successful, brilliant and extraordinary Mantle twins, Elliot and Beverly, who share everything – from drugs to lovers to their unapologetic ambition.
Their mission as gynaecologists: to bring women’s healthcare to the forefront. And they aren’t afraid to push the boundaries of medical ethics to challenge antiquated practices. And we mean really push the boundaries.
Who else stars in Dead Ringers?
Also appearing alongside Weisz (and Weisz) will be The Umbrella Academy’s Britne Oldford, who plays Genevieve, an actor who is about to make it big when she meets the twins after a “unique check-up”, according to Deadline.
Jeremy Shamos (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom) will appear as Joseph, the twins’ ruthless associate who is charged with raising money to fund their biggest project yet.
Hacks star Poppy Liu, Severance’s Michael Chernus, Pride And Prejudice’s Jennifer Ehle and The Leftovers star Emily Meade round out the ensemble cast.
Who else is involved with Dead Ringers?
As well as a notable cast, the array of talent behind the camera is seriously impressive too. In addition to her dual role, Weisz will be serving as executive producer on the show, which has been written by Alice Birch.
If her name sounds familiar, that’s because it’s been attached to some of the most exciting film and TV projects of recent years, from Florence Pugh’s breakout movie Lady Macbeth to the BBC adaptations of Sally Rooney’s Normal People and Conversations With Friends to a stint working on HBO’s Succession. More recently, she co-wrote the screenplay for The Wonder, another period piece starring Pugh, and has adapted the book The End We Start From for the screen (the film is set to star Jodie Comer, Benedict Cumberbatch and Mark Strong).
Sean Durkin, the filmmaker behind The Nest and Martha Marcy May Marlene, has directed the first two episodes (and co-directed the final episode) of the series, later passing the baton to Karyn Kusama (Jennifer’s Body), Karena Evans and Lauren Wolkstein.
When can we watch Dead Ringers?
All six episodes in the mini-series will land on Prime Video on 21 April, meaning that yes, you can binge it all in one sitting if you so wish.
