Rare 50p Kew Gardens coin sells for £167 after raking up multiple bids on eBay

Rare coins are seriously popular among collectors.

Certain coins could be worth a lot of money without people even realising at sometimes.

Usually if there's not many of the coin in circulation, it can be worth over hundreds more than its face value.

Now the Kew Gardens 50p coin is one of the favourites out there after its release date back in 2009.

Only 210,000 were launched as it features the Chinese Pagoda at the famous London landmark.

It's not unusual for the coin to sell over £150 on eBay – and it just went for £167 online.

Recently, we found the 50p coin in "genuine" condition sell for over £160 after raking up 8 bids.

The seller wrote: "This is 100% real as can be seen in the photos, the Queen's neckline is above the P small lettering not too bad condition.

"Please don't be fooled by a lot on here, look for telling details on the coins you are investing in as there is too many fakes.

"This is a 2009 genuine Kew Gardens 50p."

The coin's starting price began at an eye-watering £125 with the next bidder opting for £129.

It didn't take long for the cost of the coin to rise up to £160 with the final bid coming in on January 4.

According to the seller, it secured a whopping 8 bids by 5 users on the website.

The Kew Gardens 50p is considered to be one of the most-sought after coins out there.

It has remained the rarest since 2014.

The coin was reissued in 2019 as part of the 50th anniversary of the 50p Celebrations.

It was commemorative only and didn't enter general circulation, meaning only the original 2009 one is valuable.
