A celebrity chef and restaurateur is charging up to £2,580 for a three-night Christmas break package.

Rick Stein, 76, often offers two-night stays in the winter months at his 16 stunning guest rooms above his flagship restaurant in Cornwall, however the cost usually ranges from as little as £90 per head, per night, in a room for two people.

This means a two-night trip usually starts from £360 in one of their ‘Cosy and Comfy Deluxe rooms’ and includes a three course lunch at his posh flagship eatery The Seafood Restaurant, in Padstow.

Also included in the ‘Winter Warmer Stay’ is cod and chips tea at one of his upmarket chippies and breakfast each morning.

But during the festive period the prices have rocketed with the cheapest option for the ‘Christmas Break’ being the ‘Cosy’ accommodation, which is £1,845 for a three-night package based on two people sharing a room.

It works out at £307.50 per night – nearly three-and-a-half times the usual cost, while the most expensive stay at ‘Bryn Cottage’ is £2,580.

The stay breakdown at £430 per person per night.

Rick Stein’s website about the off season ‘Winter Warmer Stay’ reads: ‘Sample the very best Cornish seafood and stay.

‘Two night stay including a three course set lunch at The Seafood Restaurant and classic cod and chips from Rick Stein.

‘Relax in your warm and comfortable coastal room before dining on a three course set menu at The Seafood Restaurant, just a few steps away.

‘Full of your seafood lunch, take a stroll along the South West Coast Path to blow away the cobwebs before a peaceful night’s sleep.

‘Start the day slowly with a rather impressive breakfast and brave an invigorating sea dip before heading to Stein’s Fish and Chips in Padstow or Rick Stein Fistral for a warming cod and chips, while you shelter from the cold.’

‘From £90 per person per night based on two people sharing.’

St Petroc’s Bistro in Padstow is one of Rick’s restaurants, which is described as a classic French cookery

There is a five-course Christmas lunch menu with ‘roast turkey with all the traditional trimmings’ and ‘Rick’s very own Christmas pudding’

But crucially is adds that the package is not available ‘on stays on the 8 and 9 December and 22 December 2023 to 11 February 2024.’

Meaning if guests wanted to opt for the winter getaway over the Christmas period it won’t be available.

However the newest three-night ‘Christmas Break’ package is available to book at a much heftier price.

But guests do get more meals with this offer, as the package includes breakfast every morning, three lunches and three main meals.

The ‘Christmas Break’ package description reads: ‘Imagine walks around Padstow harbour illuminated by Christmas lights, the sound of carol singing coming from cosy pubs.

‘Board games and drinks in our relaxed lounges and of course, plenty of food, drink and festive cheer.

‘This break is for those that would love to spend a Christmas break in Cornwall.

‘Who think great food and drink should be at the heart of any Christmas celebration and rather like the idea of letting the experts tend to everything for a few days.
