Brandi Glanville and Jill Zarin revealed on “Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen” Tuesday that they had abortions as teens.
The “Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: Ex-Wives Club” co-stars shared their stories after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, which protected pregnant women’s right to choose to have abortions, last Friday.
“I’m horrified about what happened … with Roe v. Wade. I myself had an abortion when I was in my late teens,” Zarin, 58, said.
“It was my choice, and I don’t know how my life would have been different today [had I kept the baby],” the “Real Housewives of New York City” star added with her 29-year-old daughter, Ally Shapiro, standing behind her as the evening’s “WWHL” bartender.
Andy Cohen then asked Glanville, 49, whether she had ever had an abortion.
“I did at 17,” responded the “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” alum, who has two sons: 19-year-old Mason and 15-year-old Jake.
Cohen, 54, applauded Zarin in particular as “really brave” for posting about her abortion on her Instagram Story the day the Supreme Court made its controversial decision.
In her post, Zarin professed her sadness and disappointment in the five justices who voted to reverse Roe v. Wade.
“Today is one of the worst days of my life, on this planet, as a woman, as an American, as a human being, that men took away the right for us to choose what to do with our bodies,” she wrote.
Zarin went on to share how she was thankful she was able to have the procedure.
“I had an abortion when I was in my late teens, and my life would have been so dramatically affected,” she concluded. “Who knows, I may have put it up for adoption and wondered my entire life, ‘Was it a mistake?’”
Since the ruling, many celebrities have shared their own abortion stories and have been outspoken about their views on the matter.
Eva Longoria called the move an “attack on women’s freedom,” while Taylor Swift said she was “absolutely terrified that this is where we are” as a country.
